Positive Behaviour Support
Behaviour Support is a person-centred service that helps people understand why behaviours of concern are happening and what can be done to improve quality of life. Within the NDIS, Positive Behaviour Support focuses on reducing behaviours that may place the person or others at risk, while also building the skills, supports and environments that help the person feel safe, understood and successful in everyday life.

Positive Behaviour Support recognises that behaviour is often a form of communication. Behaviours of concern can be linked to unmet needs, stress, communication difficulties, pain, sensory needs, trauma or environmental factors. Rather than simply reacting to behaviour, Behaviour Support works to understand what is happening for the person and develop practical strategies that address the underlying causes.

For NDIS participants, Behaviour Support can help improve quality of life by increasing independence, strengthening relationships, improving communication, reducing stress and supporting greater participation at home, in the community and in daily routines. It also helps families, carers and support teams feel more confident in how they respond and provide consistent support.

When working with a Behaviour Support Practitioner, participants can expect a respectful and collaborative process. This usually includes getting to know the person, completing a behaviour assessment, identifying strengths and goals and developing an individualised Behaviour Support Plan. Participants may also receive practical strategies, skill-building supports and ongoing review to make sure supports remain helpful and meaningful over time.
At its core, Behaviour Support is about helping people live safer, fuller, and more connected lives. Our approach is practical, compassionate and tailored to the person’s goals, strengths and support needs.
